A Water Statue in Trasimene
Inspired by a 1988 song by Italian musician Franco Battiato. His was a collaboration with Swiss poet Fleur Jaeggy who added the refrain in German, the words coming from a novel of hers, Wasserstatuen. In fact, Water Statues could well have been the title of this picture with its wooden poles arranged in clumps by fishermen across Lake Trasimene, the girl standing a serene sentinel in an ocean of silence. But I prefer to give it the title of Battiato’s song as this is one of my favourite pieces of music.
There is a humorous video about the making of this picture and the difficulties encountered during shooting. The video is set to Battiato’s song. He died in May 2021 aged 76.
Location: Lake Trasimene
