A wood nymph, Sylvia, is in the service of the Goddess Diana. A virtuous shepherd Aminta, falls for her but she has to hold onto her chastity. Cupid casts a spell to make her fall in love with him but sadly she has already killed him by mistake with one of her darts. However, in Delibes’ ballet, all will be happily resolved.
